BICKNACRE COUNTRY FAYRE, A day to Remember

Den Harvey dressed as a scarecrow advertising the Bicknacre Village Fayre

What a day…………The weather was with us and the visitors just flooded in. “ The best Village event that I can ever remember, we have never had one that good”, was the comment from one visitor the next morning.
Even the couple of light showers did not stop the fun and enjoyment. Not even the Line dancing.
The owls and budgies were a great hit with adults and kids alike, fascinated by their beautiful colours and markings. They couldn’t seem to get enough, with lots of children parading their cosseted little fluffy owl purchases after their visit to the owl display. Not forgetting the baby turkeys, which also intrigued the little ones.  As for the mechanical organ, just how fantastic that was with the upper field flooded with their wonderful music while visitors milled around and enjoyed their hog roast and refreshments, not to mention, the donkey riding.
It was so good to see so many families coming along with their dogs just to prove their pooch had the ‘waggiest’ tail, or to just stroll around enjoying the day…… people came from all around, not just Bicknacre. The advertising and marketing proved effective with visitors from as far away as Walthamstow in East London.
The whole area  was decorated beautifully and in keeping with a  successful, traditional country fayre. Beautiful signage and bunting adorned everywhere, all made by so many of our villagers.  The Brewers Arms pub joined in, decorating their village business with bunting to show their support, as well as donating a raffle prize along with all our other village businesses. A BIG THANK YOU to you all for your hard work and generosity, as well as all the volunteers who worked so hard to put on this amazing day.
The traditional cream teas hit the spot, kindly run by The Women’s Institute &  Girl Guides and thoroughly enjoyed by so many, before and after visiting all the wonderful Arts & Crafts in the main Village Hall. There was a superb array of amazing arts and crafts for visitors to treat themselves to, not just in the hall, but also out on the fields. Great ideas for personal treats or putting away, ready for Christmas presents.
As for the entertainment, it just kept coming…. From Line dancing to competitions, archery, coconut shy, fabulous vehicles, charities, local facilities and many more.
And…….What a fantastic surprise to see so many competition entries. Brilliant miniature gardens and beautifully decorated cakes from our village children. It was so good to see them getting involved, as well as all the adults with their tasty cake entries and don’t lets forget the vegetables. Boy did you see that funky courgette ?
Then, when the time was right, the hay bales made ideal arena seating for individuals to just rest or sit and enjoy all the entertainment and this very special day.
WHAT A DAY…….One for our Bicknacre memory album……………..
