Orchard Planting

For some while the Friends have been working on a plan to plant an apple orchard of traditional, local varieties on a suitable site on Priory Fields. Our original idea of locating it at the west end of the East Water Meadow was changed after the very wet winter and a rather less boggy site was decided on in the south west corner of the East Meadow.

On Saturday 8th March a group of sixteen volunteers gathered in glorious sunshine to plant eleven trees, all of different varieties. With representatives of the scouts and guides, together with their parents, the work was soon completed.

Hopefully in two or three years anyone will be able to come and try the various types and enjoy some really tasty apples.
