The development of Priory Fields is an ongoing process. Apart from regular maintenance such as grass cutting and keeping weeds and brambles under control there are various projects we hope to carry out in the near future.
We propose to plant a varied hedge around the south and west sides of the arch compound and also across the East Meadow to divide the field from the proposed football pitches. Gaps will be left in the hedge to allow access to and from the football pitches.
There are plans to construct a willow sculpture in the form of a dome or tunnel, on the East Water Meadow, in which young children can play. We may seek the assistance of local children in its planting. This demonstrates our desire to involve children in the development of the fields in the hope of fostering a love and respect for the countryside and nature in general.
An area at the west end of the West Water-meadow has been set aside for the creation of a small Memorial Wood. This is probably the most peaceful and undisturbed part of Priory Fields where you may have a tree planted in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special occasion.
We hope to construct a small footbridge across the ditch from the West Water-meadow to the West Meadow to create an alternative circular route around the fields.
Our aim is to continually improve the all weather access on paths by building up low, waterlogged areas as has already been done in some places.
We now have planning permission to carry out pruning work on certain trees to make them safe and to improve access.
