Tree Planting

Despite the terrible weather forecast a total of fifteen brave souls turned out on Saturday morning of 16th March to plant 420 mixed hedging plants within the hedgerows of Priory Fields.

The Woodland Trust, with the support of companies such as Sainsbury’s  W.H.Smith, Biffa and Ikea, have donated various types of tree packs to school and community groups and Priory Fields were lucky enough to obtain a large Wild Harvest pack consisting of hazel, blackthorn, crab apple, elder and dog rose. These plants will, in time, provide food and shelter for a variety of wildlife.

Supplied with each tree pack is a Royal Oak sapling that was grown from an acorn from a tree on a royal estate.  These trees are to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and ours is planted in a prominent position where it will hopefully grow into a magnificent specimen in years to come.

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THOSE WHO HELPED WITH THE PLANTING.
